Circa Late 1930's Chester Nelson "Dot" Bike.
Chester Nelson Sr. was a member of the 1928 Olympic team and rode in Amsterdam. His son Chester Jr. was a member of the 1948 Olympic Team, and his grandson, Donald, rode in the 1964 Olympics. Chester Sr. owned a bike shop in St. Louis Missouri and buit bikes that he called "Dot" bikes named for his wife Dorothy. The bike depicted here was built for her and has 26 inc Dunlop clincher rims and Chater Lea components. Notice the super rare Chater Lea super large flange hubs. The bike is original except for bar tape, cable clips, tires, saddle & decals which are reproductions from the original. The lugs all have little "dots" in honor of his wife. He built many bikes for the St. Louis Cycling Club, the oldest continuously operating club in the U.S. founded in 1887. For three years in the 1950's Chester Sr. served as President of the A. B. L. of A. This and Chester Nelson's own bike were obtained for me by a friend and collector in St. Louis who got them from Donald the grandson.
